Get It In Writing
Just so you know, there’s another redesign of this site headed your way. I’ve made some fairly major changes in an attempt to make it more band-y, with more emphasis on the music. The weblog will remain on the front page, but only the most current entry. I don’t plan on breaking any links so all the stuff from the past five years will still be here, somewhere. Anyway, I’m working very hard on it and I hope you like it and don’t think it sucks.
Yesterday I spent a few hours transcribing most of my songs onto paper, charting out the chord changes and structure and stuff. I had to do a lot of guessing; I’ve taken music theory courses on several occassions but it just doesn’t sink in.
It was pretty neat to find out what I was playing, though. A lot of times when I’m using some weird tuning and using the capo, I have no idea what chord I’m strumming, only that it sounds great. I’m amused to find out that a particularly complex-sounding and difficult-to-fret chord is actually just some variation of G major. And like I said, I’m guessing a lot of the time. I mean, I really do want to claim that “Have We Learned” contains an F#m7 add 11 just because it sounds impressive, but I can’t confirm it because I really can’t read music. Which is the part you’re not supposed to know.
As to the reason why I’m transcribing my songs — I’ll announce that as soon as I’m certain of a few things. I’ll probably know within an hour, so I’ll likely post about it here tomorrow.

i’ve written songs down on napkins with chords like “d thingy” and “e with finger”
Scott actually stole “F#m7 add 11″ from MY library of napkins . . . bastard.

Please tell me we’re gonna get tabs.
I suck at working things out myself, especially when there’s weird tunings and capo involved.
Yeah Scott, we don’t want chord sheets, we want full tabs!!!
You wish! :)
