Some Random Bits
It only took, like, forever, but my record Where I’ve Been is finally available at the iTunes Music Store (note, that link only works if you have iTunes installed.
Some stuff I’ve been listening to:
I unknowingly sat right next to Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls at the Ani DiFranco interview at SXSW. Their site describes their style as “Brechtian punk cabaret.” It’s refreshing to listen to some dark piano-based pop music that doesn’t sound like Tori Amos.
I stumbled across El Capitan via a random Craigslist posting. Sort of mix of traditional sea-shanty and indie rock styles. Blue Tick is a great pop tune, but my favorite is The Woodcutter’s Hymn.
Finally, Brad linked to State Shirt a few days ago, and I am amazed, floored. Trip hop + troubadour folk + Radiohead-esque vocals + crazy random sample craziness. I couldn’t stop listening to the MP3s, I currently can’t stop listening to the New Planet EP which I grabbed off iTunes, and I’m looking forward to the arrival of the full-length Don’t Die. How does one even write songs like these? (The songwriter credits SongFight! for rekindling his interest in recording.)
