Its primary purpose is a shared event calendar, but upcoming.org is also a great online resource for finding live music venues to approach for bookings. Enough people have contributed their must-see events to the upcoming.org directory that it now sports an impressive database of alternative, out-of-the-way venues, like bookstores, restaurants, parking lots and even private households that hold live music events. I gotta remember to comb through this info later.

UPDATE: I should be a good netizen and point out that upcoming.org is for posting events you plan to attend, not for promoting your own shows, so don’t go dumping your gig calendar in there.
