Slamming the iPod
This page at Napster is teh lame. Below, the text reads: “Apple has chosen to keep both iPod and iTunes closed off from Napster and every other music service.” On the face of it, the claim is true, but also not. The flipside is that Napster uses copy-protection-laden WMA files, not MP3s. Compare this to a service like AudioLunchbox, which provides files in MP3 format to be used in just about any player, including the iPod. Napster’s files only work if your MP3 player has the WMA firmware installed.
Of course, the bigtime muzikbiz would never let Napster exist without DRM’ed files, so it’s not like they had a choice of file formats. But a whole page dedicated to slamming the iPod? Lame.
