Non-porn music biz books

In “["Productivity for the Practicing Musician":http://www.43folders.com/2005/11/07/musician-productivity/]” I mentioned Joe Taylor’s book _More Gigs Now_ as being a great help in getting myself on a regular booking rotation. I neglected to mention that _MGN_ is part of ["a series of books":http://spinme.com/info/books.html], and Joe is running a special holiday deal where you can get all four books for under $50.

I’ve railed against ["musicbiz porn":http://www.scottandrew.com/blog/archives/2005/01/on_music_business_po.html] earlier and haven’t changed my opinion on that topic (although I have been known to flip through Paste and Harp Magazine at B&N. For the articles.). The difference with Joe’s books is that they actually give you actionable advice — stuff you can try _right now._ The advice isn’t so much out-of-the-box as it is from a completely different box that a lot of musicians never think to peek into.

Anyway: me likey.
