Planning for obsolescence
Since I figure physical CDs will be dead in a coffin any time now, I’ve been thinking of different ways to offer my music at live shows. My first attempt will be MP3-only mini CDs. They’ll contain about 20 songs, including some demos and live tracks. They’re meant to be disposable, so you can upload the songs to whatever player you want, then throw the CD away.
I love mini CDs, they’re so little! I only made six of them so I’ll let you know how my little experiment goes.
I’m also considering pre-loaded USB keychain drives, but they’re still kind of expensive, as far as I can tell.
I figure in five years or so we’ll have devices that allow us to beam our music wirelessly to people’s iPods, cell phones or whatever, while simultaneously charging their credit cards a few bucks. Some company is gonna get rich selling this system to bands.

How about a vending machine that loads songs onto peoples existing USB devices? Wouldn’t evcn be that hard to construct if you used a human for dealing with the money.
It’s called a ‘laptop’
“That’ll be $2.99 for Scott’s entire catalog . . [mysterious invisible downloading noises] . . there you go. How ’bout a tee shirt? Want fries wi–oops, wrong job.”
I love this idea Scott. Keep us posted on how this goes over at shows.
Practice the phrase
“No, it *will* work in a regular CD drive”
sweet! these little things could become instant collectibles besides a neat way to distribute your music
