New album news
So it’s official: I’m starting work on my next record. On March 18th I’ll begin tracking at Jim Santanella’s project studio. It’s still going to be very DIY; Jim is helping me record guitars and vocals since I no longer have a decent space at the Swamp House to do it myself. We’ll export those tracks onto a CD, I’ll take ‘em home, import them into my own computer and mix them there.
It’s funny how I’ve managed to use my deficient housing situation as an excuse to start recording, but I’m not complaining. I’ve committed, and it’s happening.
The plans are rough, but here’s what I’m thinking so far:
I have the title. I’m not spilling it yet ;)
The record will be at least 10-12 songs, my first “full-length.” The majority of the them will be new tunes. A handful of them will be spiffy new “full band” versions of my fave Demo Club tracks.
There will probably also be an alternate “full band” version of Holding Back and a bonus track hidden somewhere.
It will rock harder than my previous stuff. Closer to that magical convergence of songwriter folk and indie pop I hear in my head. Springsteen meets Snow Patrol, or something like that. Maybe.
I’m aiming for an autumn release, probably October. It’s going to take me at least that long to get the non-music stuff done (pressing, packaging, etc.)
I’ll definitely be offering a few advance tracks to any podcaster or blogger who asks (I don’t care if you have a dozen readers or ten thousand).
My biggest expense will be pressing the CDs. I probably will be trying some sort of fundraising here on the site, but it won’t be any complicated multi-level craziness. Probably something simple, like donate $X amount and you can download the entire album now while you wait for your pressed CD to arrive. Thanks to cheap recording technology, I hopefully won’t need to raise too much dough.
I’m trying to come up with wacky Web 2.0 ways of promoting the new release. Suggestions welcome.
More on this, as it happens.
(I’ve never been so excited about doing music than I am right now.)

Good luck, Scott! Maybe it’s that time of the year because I’m feeling better about making music than I have in about a year.
YUM! I love your work AND Snow Patrol. Keep us posted!
Good luck with the recording. Maybe having someone else with a good ear for music could make the recording process less tedious? Maybe a second set of ears could give valuable feedback on whether a take that you’re not sure about really needs to be redone or not?
[...] one of the finished CDs in my hands. We’re near the end of a long journey that began almost two years ago*. And almost ready to begin a new one, as I get ready to promote the heck out of it next year. [...]
