Son Of The Video Contest!
UPDATE: the first batch of entries is available here.
UPDATE 2: the new deadline is midnight PST on March 12th.
Hey, remember my video contest from a year-and-a-half ago? The prize was an iPod Shuffle for the best DIY video made for my song Dark Corners.
So what happened? Disaster. Implosion. Well, more like a pfft! sound, or whatever sound unanswered emails make when they die. But it was not for lack of entries. In fact, I only recently found out that there were some videos I didn’t even see.
Let’s just say I’ve become reacquainted with the concept of hubris.
However! A few months go by and now we have YouTube, online video is hott and I have to ask: doesn’t somebody deserve a Shuffle?
So, like that guy in Reanimator who brings dead things back to life when he probably very well shouldn’t, I’m re-opening the Dark Corners Video Contest. Here’s the deal:
- The Grand Prize hasn’t changed, except that it’ll be one of the sexy new clip-on Shuffles.
The Grand Prize winner and two runners up will receive a new “robot” t-shirt, designed by me.- To submit a video, send me a link to it. If you submitted to the original contest and still have the video, please resubmit it. You can also submit a new video if you like.
- All entries must be in by midnight PST on
February 28thMarch 11th - All videos will be featured on this website in a special video section, whether they win or not, to be adored. (I plan to use YouTube to host any unhosted vids, so you must be okay with that.)
- You keep all rights to your video, etc.
Your videos need not be fancy, or even competent. Please don’t spend your college fund on this. Walking around creatively filming various objects in your living room with your webcam is fine. And please, use good sense. Five minutes of you waterboarding a kitten while my song loops in the background is not the kind of thing that wins you Shuffles or t-shirts (or goodwill).
On March 1st 12th we’ll open the vote to the Demo Club members. They’ll choose the winner and runners up.
No sponsors this time. All prizes come directly from me!
And there you have it. I’ll be posting the first round of entries soon, so stick around. Questions? Post ‘em in the comments.

the depth of your coolness is, well, cool. no, really; it is.
hey scott, all the vids in the first batch of entries are marked ‘private’ in youtube so I (and presumably most everyone else) cannot view them. fyi!
