The Muse moves
Last Saturday I wrote two new songs and started a third, in a new orange notebook with a picture of a robot on the cover that Megan gave me for xmas.
On Sunday I went over to a studio in West Seattle to sing backing vocals on Kym Tuvim’s upcoming new CD. She’s an award-winning professionally touring songwriter with mad chops, and I was honored as heck to be invited.
On Monday I helped a friend re-launch a website with a design I created, my first in a few years. And I came up with two killer concepts for February Album Writing Month, although I doubt I’ll actually participate, but it’s fun to think about.
On Tuesday I had Michael come over to throw down some violin and mandolin for my new CD. We put together a killer string section for one of the songs; I can’t wait for you to hear it.
On Wednesday I cashed my first real song licensing check. Then I went over to Jim’s studio where we worked on vocals for the new CD. Three more songs in the can, ready for mixing.
Jim’s son Beck brought me a contraption made of plastic blocks.
Me: what’s this? Is this a pyramid?
Beck: it’s a “stickley!”
Me: a “stickley?” Cool! Did you just make that word up?
Beck: [pause]
Beck: yes!
Which is awesome ’cause I make up words all the time! Then I gave Jim all my licensing money to pay off my accruing studio debt, so he wouldn’t have to send Beck over to my house with a tire iron in the dead of night.
Anyway, that’s why I’m not writing much here. I want to capitalize on this creative flow as much as possible before the Hands Of Apathy grab me and plunk me down in front of the TV again.
