Song Lab: “Ghost” version 0.3 — a little bit closer!
I took some time over the July 4th holiday to do a new recording of “Ghost In The Graveyard” with a full arrangement of drums, bass and some backing vocals. This song has come a loooong way since its original incarnation.
I’m really liking the drum tracks I’ve been coming up with these days. I upgraded to FL Studio 7 Pro and discovered it now has a pretty decent set of realistic drum samples. I ended up using them here instead of the sample drums I normally use. I’m also pretty happy with the bass line even though it took me a zillion takes to play through it without screwing up.
I recorded the vocals in a hurry as it was getting really hot in my little studio room. I’m not thrilled with my performance as I tend to get all pitchy, but I really like the sound so I’ll have to jot down the reverb and compressor settings for when I go back and do the vocals “for real.”
Enjoy!

Hey Scott. I’ve been a long time fan, ever since you had a track on the Creative Commons Copy Me Remix Me CD like three years ago. I really like what you’ve been doing lately with stuff like “Ghost” where you’re showing us the whole song writing process. This stuff and the way you’ve structured your online offerings in general makes me feel like you’re part of the small group of artists who actually gets how to use the net. Please keep it up, I always look forward to your new posts and your new music.
